Tonsil Stones Treatment - Tonsil stones are the deposits in your tonsil cavities which emanates a very foul odor, thus causing bad breath in a lot of people. The causes of these stones can be due to several factors, such as the accumulation of bacteria or white blood cells or even post nasal drips, mixed with mucous. While it isn’t actually harmful to your health in general, the bad breath often associated with this condition can indeed affect your self-esteem and image.

Removing these tonsil stones is not difficult at all. In fact, this can be done with very simple tools found in most household like salt, water, tooth brushes and cotton swabs. A lot of people have tried manually removing these stones with their fingers by pushing their tonsils or rubbing them with their hands. This is not advisable as you might accidentally push the tonsil stones further into the tonsil pockets. Also, doing this method might stimulate your gag reflex and cause you to throw up.

A better alternative is to use cotton swabs to push your tonsils in a vertical motion upwards to attempt to dislodge the stones from the pockets. Similarly, you can attempt this method using a tooth brush as well, whichever you are more comfortable with. It is not recommended however that you use a tooth pick to do this. Of course, be sure to do this at least one hour after you have had your meal as all these might cause your gag reflex to kick in as well. Plus, you should always use a flashlight together with a mirror to aid you in this.

Another method would be to gargle mouth wash or salt water, both which are effective in getting rid of tonsil stones in your mouth. However, all these methods must be done rather often, preferably after every meal and every morning after you wake up and every night before you go to bed.

Nevertheless, it should be noted that these various methods are merely temporary as the tonsil stones will recur after a short period of time. This is because the root cause of this condition is not treated. Manually dislodging all these stones is analogous to wiping blood off your wound while it continues to bleed continuously. You need to treat it permanently to eliminate the cause and prevent the condition from ever coming back. One way of course, as will most doctors and specialists recommend is to undergo surgery to completely remove your tonsils. This is however not necessary as the alternative tonsil stones treatment is very simple, effective and permanent as well.
